Family Medicine is the medical specialty which provides continuing, comprehensive health care for the individual and family. It is a specialty in breadth that integrates the biological, clinical and behavioral sciences. The scope of family medicine encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system and every disease entity.

The American Academy of Family Physicians defines a "specialist" in family medicine as a physician who meets at least one of the following three criteria:

Dr. Cuenca completed a 3-year Family Medicine residency at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista, and served as Chief Resident of the program. His residency training is approved by BOTH the ACGME and AOA. He is also board certified in Family Medicine/Practice by BOTH the ABFM and AOBFP, and is a member of the AAFP.
